Hyundai Motor Group specialists have developed a new airbag designed to divide the space between the driver and the passenger in the event of a traffic accident.
According to statistics from the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers, the level of secondary damage during an accident as a result of collisions between a driver and a passenger in the front seat or impacts on interior elements is about 45%. Hyundai’s central airbag is estimated to reduce head injuries caused by collisions between driver and passenger by 80%.
A new pillow is hidden inside the driver’s seat. The weight of the product is only 500 grams, which does not affect the overall weight of the chair of a modern machine too much.
During the impact, the pillow opens in the space between the driver and the front passenger, saving them from head injuries. If there is no one in the front passenger seat, the pillow will protect the driver from a side collision on the right side.
Allegedly, the new Hyundai is one of the lightest central airbags in the world. The company intends to use the proposed solution in its future cars.
